At this year’s ECEIA 2025 conference in Uppsala, Fabian Fischbach represented RE4GREEN, contributing to an important conversation on how environmental and climate ethics can be integrated into research ethics and integrity, particularly at the level of academic governance.
With the event’s central theme focusing on the impact of generative AI on research integrity, it became clear that current codes of conduct must evolve. As genAI technologies become more widespread across all disciplines — including the humanities — the conversation must also address issues of sustainability, justice, and environmental responsibility. Given genAI’s high resource demands and potential to increase the environmental footprint of research, this dialogue is more relevant than ever.
We were grateful for the opportunity to present our policy brief and truly appreciated the insightful feedback we received. Conferences like ECEIA are always excellent opportunities to exchange ideas and perspectives on major scientific and societal issues, enriching our knowledge and inspiring us in the process.
A warm thank you to ENAI and Veronika Krásničan for organising such an inspiring and well-curated event!
